Saturday was a good day for Canadian horse racing fans as the Canadian owned horse “I’ll have another” won the Kentucky Derby. I’ll have another was purchased for just $11,000.00 by Windsor Ontario’s J. Paul Reddam and was a 15 – 1 long shot to win.

There is another strong Canadian connection as the jockey Mario Gutierrez moved to Vancouver 6 years ago when he was 19. He has been racing at Hastings Racetrack in Vancouver for the past 6 years and he calls Canada his second home. He just made the move to California about 6 months ago to try his luck there. We all know how that has worked out for him now.

Best of luck to “I’ll have another” at the Preakness in two weeks. We’ll soon find out if he has a shot at the Triple Crown.
